Taree road racer, Alex Cudlin, will soon return to the Middle East for the final round of the World Endurance championship in November. Alex has spent the best part of 12 months racing overseas, including a 4 month stint racing in Qatar in the Middle East. He has also been touring around Europe and racing in England, but that all came to abrupt hault when the 25 year old sustained a knee injury while competing in the English Superstock Championship. The 25 year old has spent the last 6 weeks in Australia recovering from the knee injury but says he is confident heading into the event in Qatar and believes that his team can take out the race win for the 2nd year in a row.
I'm looking forward to racing in Qatar for the final round. I currently hold the Qatar Superbike lap record around that track and I'm very familar with the circuit. I previously won the Qatar International Road Racing Championship at the same track earlier in the season and I'm hoping that will help me when I return there for the final round. I'll be riding with the Qatari team, QMMF, so I'm positive about getting a great result." Although Alex has been racing Endurance for the past 6 years, and is used to the long stints on a bike, he understands how grueling an 8 hour race can be both physically and mentally. One of the most difficult things for the 3 QMMF riders will be the stifling heat of the Qatar desert. "The Qatar 8 hour is always a difficult race because it's usually extremely hot at the track and the circuit is pretty long, which means each lap is quite lengthy. When you're doing 1 hour stints on a 1000cc bike at race pace it is very physical. My knee injury is healing faster then expected and I'm confident that I'll be in good physical shape come race day . All the running, cycling and gym training I have been doing have helped build the knee back up. This may be my last race with QMMF, as they are moving in a different direction with their race priorities, and I want to put on a good show for them and the crowds to show my thanks for all their support over the years. It has been a fun ride, winning the Endurance World Cup with them in 2010 and also winning the 2011 Qatar International Road Racing Championship. I'm going there fully focused on a good result for QMMF and I am hoping to secure something for next year's race season", said Cudlin. Alex Cudlin accepting the 2010 winners World Cup with QMMF |
